IN THE RING

I duck

not out of fear 

I duck

because, secretly

I  do not want to be here

In, this, ring

that I

did, not, choose

so I duck and I block

as if prepared to lose

There are easier ways to live

You see my footwork?

fancy and fast!

It is certainly not the skill

of one 

that comes last

so I parry and I roll

even to this crowd's scorn

I duck 

brother-man

so you can carry on

I duck

to contemplate

who will rise

if you fall in this ring 

I duck

because I know it takes one 

swing

to win

so I bob and weave 

and even slip

It is life that has put me in this situation

and I do not want to hit

You

So I duck

in full capacity

and I duck

not out of timidity

I duck

because I know my strength

and she is no easy contender

full of wisdom

full of knowledge

full of favor ,spirit

and full of power 

I bow and bend

to

restrain her
