COLOURS
The next time
someone shows their colours
do,take a closer look
their reality
might be different
to their contrast
all colours
have meaning
behind buoyancy and bloom
behind vivacious
behind prismatic
behind iridescent
behind vibrant
and radiant
lies deep
delicate and dappled
there is a primary colour
behind every secondary
but if the hue distracts you
you may not see

SPLINTERS
Every time
you hold me
you break a part of me
your grasp is so weak
that I easily
slip through
your past
to see
that these splinters
between us
has nothing
to do with me
This friction
in your embrace
is no touch of grace
but open scars
with broken jars
of deep love
that now arms you
and still harms you
who choose
to scar
that which scarred you,
sparingly
allowing those
broken jars
to protect you
from loving me
But if you would just
put your palm
on your face
and move it slowly
then maybe you'll feel
what you cannot see
that great power
you have given
unreservedly
to your pain
again

RAIN
Rain accelerates the heart beat
of the river
and causes it to flow over
its place of containment
its banks of confinement
its natural course of direction
whether or not
this was the rain's intention
only the clouds would know
just how much water
it takes to flow
with such vengeance
to carry so much debris
to swell unexpectedly
to release
to unleash
to flee
