I'LL BLOW A TRUMPET FOR YOU, DADDY

I will blow a Trumpet for you,

From New Grant to Claxton Bay

From Manzanilla to Cumuto,

I'll blow one too in Tobago

When I remember your laughter

I will serenade you,

with a wind orchestra,

I'll blow a trumpet for you

When I think about your love

Your warmth,your joy

The way you liked your meat

-Just Plenty

Your perseverance

And your company

When the guys play the saxophone,

I will serenade you alone

Daddy

I will blow a trumpet for you

When there is fair play

I will blow one too at TCL and  NHA

And every January 29th on this day

I will lift a trumpet

To keep the Blues away

I'll blow a Trumpet for you

Just the way you blew it

Rest in Peace Daddy

FORTY DAYS

Forty days past forty

and soul keeps  vigil still

peering at the Northern Range

On edge of these Caroni plains

Where Venus fly

traps

savannah solitudes

It's nature they say

to evolve

to grow

to age

and only natural

of course

that beauty

and everything else fades

like   rocking chairs

and stairs

and doubts and dreams

and waxed floors of

yesteryears

Forty days past forty

and  decorated candles

now mourn

these forty years
